Field Achievements Celebration
Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate the field achievements made this year to the softball facilities! This year, thanks to the support of the Mount Horeb community, major additions include new bleachers, a concrete pad, a sound system, batting and pitching cages, and resurfacing of the Varsity Field.
Additional improvements are in the works, but it’s always nice to take a step back and acknowledge what we’ve accomplished together.
Mount Horeb Rotary Grant
Thank you to the Mount Horeb Rotary Club for their donation of $725.00 to support the equipment needs of the Mount Horeb Softball Club. Specifically, the money will be used to buy equipment for our growing youth program. Thank you Rotary – GREAT organization and GREAT group of people!!
2018 Mount Horeb Softball Club (MHSC) Scholarship Winners
Congratulations to our 2018 Mount Horeb Softball Club (MHSC) scholarship winners: Sam Adler and Ellie Kellesvig. Both ladies were Captains this year, regularly attended monthly meetings, mentored youth players, participated in club activities, and exemplify the qualities that MHSC strives to develop through our mission statement.
Pictured with Sam and Ellie is Tracy Lange who served on the scholarship committee and presented the scholarships on Senior Awards Night.
Goal Accomplished!

Thank you to all who helped us reach our 2018 goal of the purchase of the new bleachers at the Varsity Field!

Field Improvements!
Our artificial turf has arrived! Thank you to the Mount Horeb Community Foundation for their generous grant to purchase this awesome improvement! We will be adding some sand and an additional batting box turf to extend its life very soon!

Thank you to Jim Ramos and American Fence for the donation of labor and material to install a new gate north of the home dugout. This will give easy access from the field to the storage area.

Mount Horeb Community Grant
WOW – What a great community we live in!!! The Mount Horeb Softball Club is so grateful for the funds received from the Mount Horeb Community Grant Foundation earlier this week!!! Come out and see the new turf we will be installing in the batting cage thanks to their generosity this spring!!!
JV / Practice Pitching Lanes
A big thank you to American Fence (Jim Ramos and his workers) for donating and installing the new backstop fence behind the pitching lanes near the batting cage earlier this week! These lanes will be utilized for practices, JV games and are accessible for anyone to use for practicing at their convenience.
Another great addition to our program! Thanks Jim for your continued generosity!
Moho Softball Nation is Staying Busy

Another job well done! Thanks to Syd Swiggum, Eric Swiggum, and Kurt Adler for installing the home plates at the batting stations located adjacent to the softball batting cage…the improvements keep rolling!!
Clean-up Day
Thank you to Syd and Eric Swiggum; Amy Rumler; and Abby, Kimmy and Wendy Steinhauer for their efforts in reclaiming the softball batting cage from the weeds. If you are impressed, please feel free to reach out to these amazing people for all your personal weeding and gardening needs. 🙂
Volunteer Opportunities
This summer is a great time to get involved with a softball related activity!! There are numerous, easy opportunities available right now for you to donate just a couple hours to help out by showing support for the five great youth teams, raising some funds, and helping to grow awareness for softball in Mount Horeb. Following are some things that are happening around town:
Norsk Golf Ball Dunk Tank: The Softball Club is sponsoring a Dunk Tank at the Norsk’s first year celebration on Saturday, July 1st from 3pm-8pm. Barry Larson is looking for players to help run the stand. Please email Barry at blarson2801@yahoo.com if you can help.
Relay for Life: The softball club has been given the opportunity to run a food stand at the Relay for Life coming up Saturday, July 22 from 11:00 AM-11:00 PM. They would need food to be sold from 11:00-1:00ish or 4:00-7:00ish. We need a point person (or two) to step up and run this event. Board members can help brain storm food ideas. Please, let me or Jen Holman holmanjen@mhasd.k12.wi.us know by end of the day on Friday (6-30-17) if you can help out for this great cause. If no one steps forward we will lose this opportunity.
Concession Stand: Please, consider picking a date and spending just a couple hours running the concession stand at the youth games at the high school field. What a great opportunity for high school parents and players to give back to those who ran the stand during the high school season. Training is provided and this is a low stress easy way to give back. One person can easily run things in the concession stand. Please, follow this link to sign up: Please click here to sign up! There are also opportunities to run the scoreboard on any given game night as well if you are interested! Please, contact me with any questions – let’s get this sign up filled please!!
Steering Committee for Field Improvements: We are looking for 4 to 6 adults and several players willing to roll up their sleeves and look at design, layouts and feasibility of numerous field improvement projects. At the June meeting a list of possible undertakings was discussed (complete list to follow soon). This subcommittee will have the unique opportunity to shape the physical look of softball at the Varsity and JV fields for years to come!!
